Dear Citadel Football Association Members,
First and foremost, thank you. Your unwavering support — through your time, financial contributions, and tireless efforts — is the foundation on which our program stands. You embody the spirit and strength of the Long Gray Line, and I am truly grateful to be on this journey with you.
Like many of you, I felt a deep sense of disappointment following the Mercer game. We entered that contest with a positive expectation, hope, and a belief that we were ready to take the next step forward. Unfortunately, we didn’t meet that moment, and for that, I take full responsibility.
But let me be clear — our resolve remains strong. I’ve seen signs of growth in our young men throughout these first few weeks, and while the process of building a competitive, resilient football team takes time, we are not standing still. We are actively addressing areas of concern — including our offensive play design and play-calling — and evaluating every aspect of how we can better position our team for success.
Your passion and expectations fuel us. You’ve invested so much into this program, and we don’t take that lightly. We’re committed to honoring that investment by doing the hard work, making the necessary adjustments, and continuing to build a program that reflects the pride and tradition of The Citadel.
Thank you for walking with us through both the highs and the lows. Your support means more than you know — and it makes a difference.
We’re going to keep fighting, keep improving, and keep representing this great institution the right way.
Respectfully,
Maurice Drayton ’98
